First thing is first: What do these two numbers even mean? The numbers on your sewing machine needles represent two sizing systems: a European (metric) system & an American system! These numbers generally indicate the needles diameter in millimeters! The European system uses numbers like 60, 70, 100, etc where the higher the number, the thicker the needle. The American system uses numbers like 8, 9, 11, etc & just like the European system: the higher the number goes the thicker the needle! Cool, right?! :)
